May 29 2008, 08:03 PMHi all, great to see so many of you joining the group! I'm currently so busy at work that I only check into lawyrs.net every other week.
See you later!

May 29 2008, 08:50 PMHi Liza
You can check out the orientation and welcome programme here:
http://www.kcl.ac.uk/international/starting/orientationfull....
I think these dates are still tentative. Better to check with the international office at KCL. The college hasn't sent me any communication on the orientation but I came across it while browsing the KCL website.

May 29 2008, 08:56 PMHi Everyone
Chris and I decided to make a group on Facebook called King's College London 2008-2009 LLM. The link is:
www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=12882874719
It's just for fun and to possibly interact in a more informal setting than lawyrs.net. Chris's group here is ideal for professional networking, law related stuff and professional updates of the LLM class of 2008-2009 at KCL, so all of us should continue to use this group for those purposes. Clutter the Facebook group all you want with non law related stuff. lol. :)))))))))

Jun 10 2008, 09:52 AMHallo Everyone,
Glad to join the group:) I come from Georgia and I'll be studying part-time Commercial and Financial law. The only concern that I have at this time is that I cannot apply for accommodation so far, I guess due to the fact that I will be taking the part-time program.Still not sure about my living conditions.
Does anyone know what are the chances to obtain a student loan either at KCL or at any bank of UK?
p.s. I am a EU citizen.
Thanks, hope to hear from you
L

Jun 10 2008, 11:38 PMHi Lina
Welcome. :) I'm from Delhi, India.
As far as I know, KCL had a tie up with Sallie Mae for loans, but Sallie Mae closed down it's operations in UK and for the 2008-2009 session is not giving any loans to students in UK. Since you're a EU citizen, maybe the private banks may help you out. I didn't explore the option of a loan from UK banks since I'm not a EU/ UK citizen. :)
Why don't you write to the college about accommodation? Find out if you can apply or not as a part time student. Maybe you can apply for accommodation if you have sent them written confirmation of your acceptance? Write to [email protected]
All the best.
Cheers
Prashant

Jun 11 2008, 08:52 AMThanx Prashant,
I sure did write them, even twice but no response:) I will probably look for private accomodation, but of course once I have a guarantee of obtaining the loan.Until than I wondered if the blog that you posted regarding the job opportunities is relevant to all the new students and graduates or only Indian students? Where shall I seek for such hints in my case? Thank you Prashant, you seem to be a guide for all the green comers:)

Jun 11 2008, 11:51 AMHi Lina
I think KCL is taking more time now to respond to emails. They're probably busy with the admission process.
The blog is relevant for all LLM students and not just for Indian students. The basic principles in the blog are applicable generally because law firms are more concerned about your LL.B degree and where you did that from, how much you scored in your LL.B etc. In addition they see the kind of work experience you have rather than the LL.M degree. Most of the law firms don't really consider the LLM to be of prime importance while considering your application.
I suggest you write to a few of the recruitment consultants like Taylor Root (www.taylorroot.com) and First Counsel (www.first-counsel.co.uk). These are the good consultants in London according to some of the Magic Circle firms. Send them your specific queries, a CV of yours and ask them directly for their views on the value of a LLM and the job possibilities for you after the LLM.
Since you're a EU citizen, it might be easier for you to get a job than an Indian student. :) Where did you do your LL.B from?
Happy to help (like the Vodafone Ad campaign). :)))
