I am not sure whether they compulsorily need you for the entire week or not but the actual enrolment process as in issue of college id , kcl email address etc happens in a single day.
To be more precise in an hr, we will be given a 1 hr time slot based on the first alphabet of our last names and we r supposed to be there in the strand campus to enrol .
This was what happened last year. Dont knw if the systerm has changed

Aug 22 2008, 11:16 AM@ Liza and Prashant.. good news.. in case if u feel that u wont be able to meet the deadline of 3rd September then not a issue. i emailed accomm office and this is what they replied:
"Thank you for your e-mail, I hope this finds you well. With regards to your enquiry, your records indicate that you have returned your provisional offer for Stamford Street Apartments - the residence pack will be sent out in the next couple of days. Should you wish to confirm your place, please contact the residence office at Stamford Street Apartments on 0044 (0)207 633 9506 and pay your key deposit over the telephone using any major credit/debit card (not American Express) and this will secure your allocated place. Should you have any further questions or require more information
please contact our office."
So i called Stamford Streets and gentleman there nicely explained to me that the main purpose of deadline is to receive the initial deposit of 150 GBP. And in case u feel that u wont be able to meet the deadline then u can deposit the same on phone using ur credit card which i did.. my place is confirmed now... Now in case even if the residence pack doesn't reach the office on time even then at least my place is confirmed... so it is better that u deposit this initial amount through credit card..
And in case of further information its better u call the accommodation rather then e-mailing them..[Edited Aug 22 2008]

Aug 22 2008, 01:06 PM@Aditya: Thanks for this info. I'll also pay the deposit by credit card before I cancel all my credit cards. LOL. But I'll wait for the residence pack to reach me before making the payment. I want to go through it carefully. :)
I'm still finding out about the banks regarding forex, will let you know once I have some info. I'll probably take my forex from SBI, since I bank with them. But it all depends on where I get the best exchange rate. As far as paying the college fees is concerned, I feel it's better to wire transfer it or write a cheque once you've opened your bank account in UK.

Aug 22 2008, 01:19 PM@ Prashant: yup sbi seems to be a good option.. i will visit SBI international banking branch in chd. tomorrow to inquire about various options.
and one of Senior Manager of a bank also suggested me to use wire transfer facility to transfer money.. though i am not sure about its details..
i guess this is all what is needed for wire transfer..
Bank transfer - can be made into the following account
Account Name: Kings College London
Bank: National Westminster Bank PLC,
PO Box 221, Connaught House,
65 Aldwych, London WC2B 4EJ
Sort Code: 56-00-13
Account Number: 96707402
Bank Swift-Code: NWB KGB2L
Bank Routing No: IBAN No GB51NWBK56001396707402
Please ensure your Bank quotes your student number and student name as the payment reference, and whether for accommodation fees or tuition fees.
Cheers

Aug 22 2008, 05:22 PMHello everyone!
I can see that you all have been quite active for the past couple of days! I just wanted to ask you all whether you all made any deposit with your provisional offer for accommodation?
My apologies to Liza! I was in Delhi finishing my Visa formalities so couldnt reply earlier. I have already booked my tickets for the 13th but looking forward to meeting you on the 15th or later whichever is convenient!:)I hope it wont be a problem though if we come a little late? What say?
Aditya- I am flying Jet Airways on the 13th with a friend of mine! We are all heading to Stamford street Aptmnts!!! So itl be good!:) How do you plan to get to the accommodation?
Anisha- I had participated in that Moot! Why was it controversial? I thought you guys did a good job! I am still waitin for my accommodation contract I think itl take some more time!:( Another place for accommodation can be Helen Graham House. A friend of mine from Queen Marys stayed there. She said its not that fancy but one can stay there till one finds a place. Maybe you can look that up aswell!
Prashant- Since we havent had a discussion on any topic so just dropping in a line to say Hi!:)

Aug 22 2008, 07:34 PM@Aditya: Thanks for the details.
@Ujjwala: HI. :) You don't need to pay a deposit when you get your provisional accommodation offer, but you will need to pay about 150 pounds when the hard copy Residence Contract reaches you and you send it back to KCL.
You can check out last years brochures at the link given below. Lots of useful info and they've advised international students to print the brochures and carry them to London. Most of the info is relevant for this year too. I'm not sure whether they'll send hard copies of the brochures to the students but I doubt it very much since it's easily available for download.

My passport is ready for collection so I assume my Visa has been granted. For all of you who haven't applied yet or applied recently, I applied on 12/08/08 and got the info about the passport being ready for collection tonight. This means that instead of the 4 working days, they are taking much longer to process the Visa. Will book my flight for 9th September.
