The basic fact about the system in U.K is this that the so called placement services in univesities does not work as they in India. they do not liase with employers to promote you...they just provide you guidance and some opportunity to interact with them. It is you who have to apply and make your own efforts they in no case can get u recruited some where....
Please dont get swayed by the figures you mentioned, there are so many intricacies involved...it will be better to consider other factors like course contect, faculty, infrastructure and tag value. It is also worth to consider the place where the uni is located.....
Well If I am asked about the best Uni's for LLM in U.K, I would say (based on my research)
Oxbridge definately on top
LSE
Kings
Warwick
Nottingham
Edinburgh
Durham
Again it will not be a bad ideas to write to some of the professors or concerned officers of the uni and law firms and specifically target specific concerns..
and last words ...in the end if u r nt at oxbridge nothing matters where u study,,,,its ur capability that will earn u a job here in uk....law firms dont consider such tag values they just assess ur application forms.

@Samir: I completely agree with what you've written above. Since you're studying at Warwick right now, you obviously have a better idea of the job scene out there. I've done extensive research on the job prospects after the LLM and have written to various law firms and recruitment consultants in UK. You're right when you say that law firms don't consider the tag values of the LLM. They are more concerned with your previous experience and where you did your LL.B from.
FYI I'm going to King's for the September 2008-2009 session.
@Navitha - You really don't need to take the IELTS to fulfill your conditions. Just write to the University and tell them that you've studied in English all throughout. You'll need to provide them with a certificate from your University where you did the LL.B, stating that your LL.B studies were done in English. They should waive the condition for the IELTS. I did the same thing for King's and they waived the requirement of IELTS/ TOEFL.

I have friend at kings doing LLM, if you have any thing in specific I can help you out if u want...
@navitha
Well prashant is right about the TOEFL thing, it would also be better if you send your university a piece of writing by you that has been published somewhere and pursuade them of your english capabilities. On top of that you should send them a certificate from your college that the medium of instruction at ur college was english...
That may do wonders...

Jun 09 2008, 11:18 PMHi Samir
Thanks for the info. It would be great if I could get some feedback from someone studying at King's. I'll send you a personal message with my queries. How has your time at Warwick been? Which LLM are you doing at warwick? Did you find the LLM up to your expectations?
Cheers
Prashant

Jun 10 2008, 03:46 PMHi Navitha
Manchester gave me the admission without even asking for a IELTS/ TOEFL. I just sent them my transcripts. So it's very strange that they are not considering your request.
The visa application normally takes 4 working days to process if all your documents are in order. If they call you for an interview and need additional documents/ information it can take about 15 days to a month. You can check out this website for the visa details: http://www.vfs-uk-in.com/
The organization handling the visa application for UK suggested that I can apply sometime in August also for the visa. So don't worry about being too late for the visa. I plan to apply for the visa only in July end.
All the best.
Cheers
Prashant

Jun 21 2008, 07:08 PMHi Prashant,
I was able to meet Sheffield Delegates. I got an offer from them................I have decided to take up commercial law from Sheffield University :-)
I was more keen in knowing about scholarship, but did not get useful information, as the lady who was here is not a part of finance and funding depatment.....apart from this I had nothing to ask her as the course contents and other inforamtions are on the net.......I suggest you to contact Chopras consultants,,,they will keep you updated on when these universities visit India, so that you can meet them personally...thats what I do....
