Aug 19 2009, 09:12 AMHow about something like the 26th? It's also my birthday so it might be a nice excuse for a beer. Then 27th we start orientation and they'll keep us busy for a few days until Bastien arrives for the second beer/coffee...

Aug 19 2009, 09:22 AMI think I am supposed to meet with my mentors on the 26th, but there is no reason why I cannot do both :-) Especially since it's Alexandra's birthday (happy birthday, by the way!) Any suggestions on where and when to meet? I know nothing about the city of Leiden, so I am useless in this regard.

Aug 20 2009, 06:43 PMCharlie, my little apartment is OK. It just includes the necessities - an extra-long twin-sized bed, small W.C. with toilet, shower and sink, a mini-kitchen with a sink and under-the-counter fridge (the only weird part: I have NO OVEN, just two electric hobs on the countertop).
Now for the less-than-positive bits: The floor was quite dirty when I moved in, and I will invest in some cleaning supplies to keep the dreck under control. There's no air conditioning, and the weather has been quite humid, so be sure to pack some breathable fabrics (and buy a cheap oscillating fan!). Lastly, you may be taken aback by the little porcelain shelf inside the toilet bowl. I'm not sure why the Dutch feel compelled to inspect their poo, but apparently they do.
