The United States Energy Sources and the Quest for a Unified Energy Policy: Are we still giving the Fossil Energy Industry the Upper Hand against Renewables?

The United States is in a quest for a unified or coordinated national energy policy. But is this search even possible to begin with, in an economy where the fossil energy industry is given preferential treatment and a bias against the renewables industry? The Obama administration is in a quest to break away from foreign oil dependence. But it inherited responsibility from the previous Bush administration that looked to oil as a "cover all" money maker. The previous administration had ushered in the dependence in the first place. Can the country be freed from this dependence? How far are we from raising the stakes to allow renewables to compete here?.
This work dives head long into this fossil/renewable debate discussion.
