    Hi everyone,

I would be happy to answer questions about life in NYC. I've attended classes at NYU through the years and live in nearby New Jersey. You'll have a glorious time in the city, I'm sure!

    Hey Linda,
Which areas would you recommend for someone studying at Columbia? Do you think Lower East Side or Tribeca (where I have friends) are too far south to "commute" to CLS?

    Hi Linda!
Thank you very much for your availability to answer our questions! I was wondering which would be a reasonable monthly budget to live in NYC with my spouse (living in a 1 bedroom apartment nearby Columbia). I mean, I can't afford a royalty life, but a certain level of comfort is desirable...
    Thank you very much!

Thanks for the questions! I would stay closer to CLS. The metro will get expensive, and I'm sure there will be so much going on that it would be prudent to stay close by. As for monthly budgets, I'm afraid I don't have a lot of knowledge about rentals. There was just a report on TV the other night about condominium and co-op fees rising (over $1000/month) in addition to at least $1200/month or so for a studio apartment. I would engage a NYC realtor to find the best place and get a good idea about budgets. One other little thing I'd like to share: if you're interested in learning about the city and getting a good orientation, take a sightseeing bus tour. There's also a fellow who operates a very inexpensive series of tours all around the city: Adventures on a Shoestring. Here's some information from the Internet:
Adventure on a Shoestring, T 1-212 265 2663. Sat and Sun; call for times and meeting place. $5 per person. Howard Goldberg has been running a variety of tours for over 40 years. Each one lasts 90 minutes and may cover Marilyn Monroe’s Manhattan, Haunted Greenwich Village, A Salute to Jackie Kennedy Onassis or a Little Odessa tour of Brighton Beach.
