Jan 03 2008, 07:09 PMHi everybody, I started this group to share ideas and talk about the problems we are facing as prospective NUS students. I will attend the NYU@NUS program in 2008/2009. I have also created another group called "NYU@NUS" at https://www.lawyrs.net/groups/35/nyunus-class-of-2009, which already has several members, but I think we should also talk about NUS in general.
Any input is welcome!

Jan 26 2008, 10:19 PMI have a friend who lived in Singapore for 6 years. I'm getting her help. I wouldn't worry to much about it, there are several different websites available and it is always possible to negotiate a roommate thing for an apartment in town. I'll share the information my friend gives one she does.

Jan 27 2008, 07:17 AMHi guys. My friend from the inaugural NYU@NUS class said that majority of them stayed at Evan's Lodge during the first few months of the school year - primarily out of convenience as the NYU part is said to be intense. I heard that it isn't too difficult to find off-campus housing tho. My friend now stays in a duplex walking distance from the school and pays less than she did for Evan's Lodge. Good deal. I've asked her and other friends based in Singapore for help. Will update you as well once i get more info. Looking forward to meeting you all in May! =)

Feb 01 2008, 07:52 AMHi again. Info i have so far -- average monthly rental for a 2BR unit (with living room & kitchen) in an HDB condo [i think this is gov't housing - so cheaper in general] is S$1220-1500. A room in a shared private condo can range from S$600-1000. Heard that people usually start looking for a place 3wks-1month before target move in as listings don't stay vacant for long. Employing an agent can expedite the search but they charge a one-time fee of 1/2 your first rent. If you guys have any particular concerns you'd like me to ask about, just let me know. =)
