Whither or Whether the Executive Presidency: A Study in the Light of Separatism

This work discusses the post-Independence political history of Sri Lanka vis-a-vis separatism and the institution of Executive Presidency which was introduced in 1977. The crux of the argument made in this work is that, an Executive with wide-ranging powers is a necessity to a deeply divided and troubled polity like Sri Lanka to safeguard the sovereignty of the country. However, this work also recommends amendments to the Second Republican Constitution of Sri Lanka with regard to the Executive in order to make it more democratic.

Taken as a whole, this book could be seen as a fusion of history, politics and law. In short, with a view to provide a more unorthodox insight to the Executive Presidency, the author brings together these diverse disciplines which are all branches of the wider discipline of social science.
