Clearwater Solicitors...
Although we are experienced solicitors in the field of personal injury and hospital claims, it is always disheartening to read reports of negligence by hospital staff. This latest story of an octogenarian who died due to delayed treatment for an MRSA infection is sadly not a one-off occurrence in UK hospitals.
The family of Irene Foyer successfully pursued compensation for the lack of care and negligence shown by Northampton General Hospital in 2011. It was shown that a series of incidents led to Mrs Foyer’s death and the family were subsequently awarded approximately £10,000 in compensation. Problems began when Mrs Foyer underwent hip replacement surgery after which, the patient suffered from an infection. It was a staggering 10 days before the wound was treated, yet this proved too little too late as Mrs Foyer died shortly after having infected tissue removed.
Apologetic
Northampton General Hospital admits investigations showed they failed in their duty of care. In a statement issued to the press, the hospital also said it had taken steps to ensure incidents of this nature never happen again.
Making a claim against a hospital
It can be extremely difficult to know what to do in circumstances such as this and especially if you have lost a loved one due the negligence of hospital staff. This is why it is essential that you are represented by a legal team knowledgeable in this specific area of law. Many people feel unable to deal with the tasks required to submit a claim, but without help you can get the compensation you and your family deserve, whilst helping to ensure tragic events such as this do not occur again.
Why make a claim?
If you a have been injured at an NHS or private hospital you could be eligible to make a claim for compensation. The aftermath of botched surgery can result in expensive reconstructive surgeries, lengthy stays in hospital and long periods away from work. All this adds up to a hefty bill which you may find difficult to pay. Compensation is a way of regaining control over the situation and also gives victims a sense of justice. Damages awarded can cover costs for things such as transport to and from hospital appointments, day-to-day living expenses, household bills and loss of earnings.
