Knee Injuries On Your Fingertips

Injuries are some of the most common ailments most people have to come to terms with whether in the sports field or at home. It is reported in the United States for example that 150,000 ACL injuries occur annually translating to a health care cost $500 million. Celebrities aren’t spared either. No one can forget when in 2010 Katy Perry while dancing at an awards ceremonies fell and had to receive 17 stitches. Some personalities have however not been so lucky with most recently Lindsey Vonn and Jeremy Lin. Lindsey recently shared a picture of her injury she sustained during the Australia held Alpine Ski World Championships while Lin who has recently caught the world by storm will be missing for the rest of the NBA season to undergo surgery on his knee.

No one really needs a knee injury definition as it is in particular one organ that is prone to mutilation of all kinds giving many people restless nights. Some of the most common knee injuries occur on the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL). They mostly occur mostly due to accidents, negligence, slips and falls. Sometimes it is also caused by lack of exercise and pushing too hard when exercising or playing a sport.

The ACL which is tasked with the job of preventing the shin bone from sliding forwards is most prone to injury especially when a person comes into direct contact with another person, changes direction rapidly, lands from a jump or makes other awkward strenuous movements such as twisting. Fact is that however, nearly 70% of injuries incurred by athletes to the ACL are caused by non-contact mechanisms. Direct impact and blows from sports or accidents dealt to the knee mostly affect the PCL, medial and lateral ligaments of the knee. Tendon injuries such as tendinitis (inflamed or ruptured) are also common which mostly result from overusing the tendons or trying to break a fall resulting in the tendon tearing.

Despite the ghastly myriad of harms the knee is susceptible to, knee injury claims are a breathe of fresh air for many people today. There are so many claims that can be made and different amounts payable but the rule of the thumb is to always contact a specialist lawyer that would work out who is liable to pay the claim. Nevertheless there are common knee injury claims that are paid such as twists and painful bruising knee injury, torn cartilage, twists that result in minor symptoms, serious knee injury etc. On average the pay-out ranges from £10,780 for modest injuries to £75,625 for very severe injuries. The amount of knee pain suffered and financial loss incurred are some of the factors taken into account when calculating the claim.

Regardless of the compensation, when it comes to health the old adage that prevention is better than cure still holds strong. It is important to warm up, exercise (not too little or too much), take pain seriously when it occurs and observing rehab and rest when treated. Once the worst has happened fortunately there are treatments available some requiring surgery and some therapy depending on the severity of the injury. The best thing to do at home is to rest, put ice on the injury to reduce swelling, using an elastic wrap to compress the wound and elevating the leg to the level of the heart or above.
