This exposition is concerned with the following questions: What is the
content of the pillars that support transactions in the public securities market,
in the United States and European contexts, and what is its applicability to
Colombian law? These questions will be addressed in four sections. The first
will consist of a brief introduction (A.), followed by a presentation of some
elements of United States law on the subject. (B.). Then the relevant principles
of European law will be outlined (C.), and the paper will end with a section of
conclusions on the applicability to Colombian law of the principles discussed
(D.).
