More about me My Background

I obtained my law degree from the Saint Tomas University of Bogota, specialising in Criminal law and later I became trained at the University of Salamanca in Spain and convalidated my Legal qualification in Spain and became a member of the Barcelona Bar Association, the "Colegio de Abogados de Barcelona" so I am a Spanish and European Lawyer by training and profession.

Since qualifying I have occupied a variety of different positions such as: Analyst in Human Rights and International Humanitarian Rights to the General Command of the Military Forces, Colombia; legal adviser to The Colombian Air Force; Legal Director of the District of Bogotá high security Jail; Local Mayor of Usaquén in Bogota; Specialist Property Consultant for individuals buying in Spain.

My Experience

Through my own consultancy Ortiz-Fonseca & Abogados, I advise British purchasers of Spanish properties. I started this some years ago to counteract the difficulties British people often experience with developers or indeed the different approach of Spanish lawyers compared to UK lawyers (most of whom seem to be appointed on the recommendation of Spanish developers!) Obviously my Spanish language also places me at an advantage.

Whether it is my experience in Wealth Management, Property, Human Rights, Criminology, Director of a high security gaol or a Mayor of a Locality of Bogotá with a population of 700.000 people, all my positions have involved serious responsibilities and very differing legal skills but all required leadership and determination. I am proud of what I have experienced and achieved but I believe the best is yet to come!
