This is becoming a bit scary: https://www.lawyrs.net/news/tag/Layoffs

In Western Europe (ex-UK) the situation still seems quiet (I'm based in Austria). At least, none of my friends told me that their law firm is planning layoffs, but this could well be the calm before the storm. Some told me that their Eastern European offices are already laying off people.

How does everyone else feel about the current job situation for associates?

According to the article Linklaters is also kicking out up to 10 per cent of associates (!) "to become a smaller, more profitable operation".

That could affect more than 200 associates worldwide...

I found a really great website that tracks layoff numbers by all major law firms:

    http://lawshucks.com/layoff-tracker/

Check it and figure out who's next!

The summary is as follows: "As of January 30, 2009, there have been over 3,290 layoffs since January 1, 2008. There have been 1,528 in calendar 2009."
