Reuters has published an article stating, "Top global logistics firm United Parcel Service hopes to buy a firm in China and boost staff there in coming years." In the article a UPS official was quoted as saying, "U.S. consumers are not buying, but I think the great opportunity for us internationally is business that never touches U.S. shores." How does this story strike the group? Do you think we will see more companies pin their global expansion hopes on M&A? As an expansion strategy, what do you think of the UPS anouncement? Any other comments or observations?

I think there's a growing mood of protectionist sentiment directed against foreign acquisitions of Chinese domestic companies. Mofcom (China’s Ministry of Commerce) has just published a ruling that shows how Chineses authorities can use China’s new antitrust regime to shield domestic industry from foreign competition: http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/d7addf8e-beff-11dd-ae63-0000779fd1...
