According to Prospect Magazine, Dani Rodrik, an economist at Harvard, writes in his latest book that the largest beneficiaries from the dismantling of agricultural protection would be not the poor people of the developing countries but the European taxpayers (including me, then). The WTO negotiations is de facto a forum for bargaining between producer interest groups in which neither consumer welfare nor economic growth plays a significant role.

He proposes that the WTO is reformed so that it is clear that its goal is to advance development through trade.
